As of 2008, Beta Omega and Mu Omega Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. have awarded $1,197,350.00 in scholarships and book awards. Beta Omega Chapter hosts the Debutante Ball in even numbered years.
Since the first Debutante Ball was held, 1,788 outstanding young women have been recognized who exhibit high scholastic achievement; are actively involved at their school and in the community; and who are poised and well rounded. All Debutantes, at the time of their presentation, are either high school seniors or first semester freshmen in college.
The purpose of the Debutante Ball is to empower and enrich young women with leadership and etiquette training, opportunities for community service, exposing them to cultural arts and facilitating workshops designed to assist them in career choices to become productive members of the African-American community and society.
